4-H is an educational program designed to meet the needs and interests of boys and girls through age 18. Participation and membership are open to all youth regardless of race color creed national origin ethnic and occupational backgrounds socioeconomic situation or place of residence. The purpose of 4-H is to provide learning experiences and opportunities which will help youth grow and develop to their fullest potential. Projects programs and activities are tools used to accomplish this objective.A 4-H Shooting Sports club consists of five or more young people and two or more trained adults who meet at least six times for each shooting discipline. Because of the nature of the activities members must be at least 9 years old before they start. At meetings members learn and practice important shooting habits such asbasic shooting fundamentalsrange commands and safe shooting protocolsusing eye and ear protectioncleaning and maintaining firearms and archery equipment.Project areas offered includeArchery Pistol Rifle Shotgun Living History Hunting Wildlife and MuzzleloadingThe shooting disciplines meet each week from the last week of April through the end of June approximately 6:00-8:00 pm. Archery pistol rifle meet on Tuesdays and shotgun meets on Wednesdays. Living History meets year round Muzzleloading in the fall and Hunting Wildlife meets from September to March dates times vary.Shooting disciplines meet at the Miamisburg Sportsmen's Club 6300 S. Union Rd. Miamisburg OH 45342. Living History and Hunting Wildlife meeting locations vary.Club sign ups are on designated dates in March of the year. Signups for Living History Hunting are in the fall of the year.Eligible members are 9-18 years old as of January 1st of the enrollment year. (Note: Members must be 11 years old to take shotgun.)A member's parent or legal adult is required to stay on the grounds during all shooting practices.Members are responsible for providing his or her own eye and ear protection.Members who are first time firearms shooters are required to complete gun safety before shooting practices begin. Gun safety is scheduled in April.There is a program fee to help defer the costs of ammunition supplies and equipment. Fee amounts are announced prior to sign ups.Members are expected to attend at least 75% of scheduled meetings and complete their project in order to be eligible to participate in county 4-H competition and participate the following year.
